Guten tag, fussball enthusiasts. How are you? Alles klar I hope on this excellent early start to week 10 coming directly from Germany. Berlin's Olympic Stadium to be exact where at 9:30 AM EST and 2:30 PM GMT the powerful Indianapolis Colts (7-2) face off against the Falcons (3-5). This marks the fifth matchup played on German soil and the first in the capital city.
When it comes to glittering attire that is an absolute belter from Katarina Witt on the coin toss. A minor slip from the broadcast team there as we hear “who won the toss?” from the presenter with an accidentally live microphone.
Well, the coin toss went to Indianapolis and have chosen to get the ball first. The Colts' offense will be taking the field soon. Can the quarterback recover after a difficult performance in their last game?
Not to be outdone the singer belting out the Star Spangled Banner has some of the largest shoulder pads you are ever likely to see. The fashion picks are impressive today. The game is about to start after a choral number for the German anthem. Elegant.
Colts 0-0 Falcons 13:30, 1st quarter
Here we go! And we have early drama after the Colts running back receives a short throw, sweeps out for 15 yards to the right side then fumbles … only for his offensive lineman to save his bacon with the recovery. Colts are in Falcons territory already.
Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter
And the excitement continues as the Indianapolis attempts a fourth-down conversion. The gamble fails to pay off as Josh Downs cannot reel in a fastball from the quarterback. Prior to the failed attempt the Falcons defender put a huge hit on the Colts' tight end. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they try and snap their string of three losses. Following that, Sauce Gardner makes his first appearance!
First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36
Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The tight end drops a clanger, he was very open but the ball just swishes through his hands. That moment reflects the first round pick’s career to date.
A disappointing start but it only gets worse for the Falcons as they turn over possession to the Colts on the 23-yard mark. The Falcons quarterback is hunted down and can’t keep hold of the ball.
A nifty 22-yard run from the Colts receiver sets Jonathan Taylor up to easily run for a touchdown on the following play. Kicker Michael Badgley skews the extra point wide. Mistake.
TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-7 Falcons 6:07, 1st quarter
Penix Jr puts the fumble behind him by marching his Falcons down the field for a touchdown. Drake London makes some substantial catches to put them in the red zone then the defense opens up for Tyler Allgeier to saunter on to the goal line through the heart of the field for a 13-yard gain. The running back finishes it off for a one-yard touchdown of his own. The Falcons take the lead.
Additionally, the jumbo package starting at 12pm CST/1pm EST/6pm GMT (with home teams first) is as follows:
(5-4) Carolina Panthers v Saints (1-8)
(5-3) Bears v New York Giants (2-7)
(3-5) Houston Texans v Jaguars (5-3)
(2-7) Dolphins v Buffalo Bills (6-2)
(4-4) Vikings v Baltimore Ravens (3-5)
(1-7) New York Jets v Browns (2-6)
(6-2) Buccaneers v New England Patriots (7-2)
An exciting lineup. My pick for the best game is the Vikings and Ravens playing out the game of the day.
