Several people sustained injuries when a Delta Airlines flight originating in LA to Sydney experienced significant turbulence this past Friday.
Flight DL41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it made its approach and landed at the Sydney airport, a company official told. Several cabin crew members were injured.
The New South Wales Ambulance Service said they assessed five patients, and transferred a trio to hospital with minor injuries that included pain in the back and head pain. The injured spanned from their 30s up to the 70s.
The event represents the most recent case of planes experiencing turbulence, with experts indicating that global warming is a significant contributor.
On board were 245 passengers and a crew of 15 on the Airbus A350, the representative noted, stating that the plane landed "without further incident" at Sydney Airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on Friday.
The NSW Ambulance Service said they were alerted just three minutes ahead of the plane landed, and ambulances were standing by on the runway.
